Medical Assessment Pathway for Nurse & Naturopath Clinic Referrals

This referral pathway supports Registered Nurses (including those trained in IV nutrient therapy through the Australasian Institute of Medical Nutrition – AIMN) and Registered Naturopaths who are referring patients for medical review, investigations, or collaborative care planning.

It is suitable for patients seeking a medically reviewed integrative plan, including those with fatigue, nutrient insufficiency, chronic health concerns, or more complex presentations requiring additional clinical oversight. The service also supports nurse‑ or naturopath‑led care where there is a need for:

• Appropriate pathology or investigation requests

• Review of existing blood results or other investigations

• A medically guided plan to correct confirmed nutrient deficiencies

• Consideration of prescription‑only options where clinically appropriate

• Assessment of suitability for IV nutrient therapy or other supportive treatments

Referral and Safety Screening

All referred patients attend an online doctor consultation before any treatment plan is issued. This may include assessment for IV therapy, nutrient support, or broader integrative management depending on the clinical context.

If you are referring a patient, a brief clinical summary is extremely helpful. Please include:

• Relevant history and current concerns

• Current medications and allergies

• Significant diagnoses or treatment history

• Your clinical impression and what you would like explored

• The therapeutic approach or nutrients you are considering (IV or otherwise)

• Relevant pathology, imaging, referral letters, or blood‑request forms

Each patient is assessed individually. Screening may include review of medical history, medications, kidney function where indicated, allergy history, pregnancy status, and treatment‑specific risks. Additional pathology or investigations may be requested before a plan is issued.

Not every patient will be suitable for IV nutrient therapy or certain integrative treatments. Recommendations are made only where clinically appropriate and within the referring clinic’s scope, training, and governance requirements.

What You Receive After the Consultation

Following the doctor consultation, both the patient and the treating nurse/naturopath clinic receive a clear, medically considered plan where appropriate.

This may include:

• Recommended IV formulation or nutrient support plan

• Dose, frequency, and administration guidance (within clinic scope)

• Required pre‑treatment checks or pathology

• Safety considerations, contraindications, and monitoring requirements

• Broader clinical recommendations such as pathology requests, investigation planning, or prescription options where appropriate

The aim is to provide a practical, collaborative plan that supports your clinic’s care while keeping communication clear, safe, and aligned with medical requirements.

Referrers are welcome to send a brief clinical summary and any relevant results before the appointment.
